Join us aboard the SS American!
We're sad to be leaving Godspell behind us, but as always we are looking forward to our next show! Next Spring, we will be performing Cole Porter's classic musical Anything Goes at the Hexagon Theatre in Reading.
The Cole Porter classics follows stowaway Billy Crocker on his whirlwind endeavour to win the heart of glamorous society heiress, Hope Harcourt, before the ship reaches port. With the hep of his friend Reno Sweeney, and several cases of mistaken identity, Billy rigs a plot to trick Hope's overbearing mother, her wealthy aristocratic fiance and the ship's Captain, so he can be alone with Hope and confess his love. But will it all go according to plan?
Awash with some of Cole Porter's best loved songs including: 'You're the Top', 'Friendship', 'It's De-Lovely' and the title song 'Anything Goes'.
If you would like to join us aboard the SS American as we cruise along this journey, tickets will be on sale soon. Read more about the show here.
Of course a cruise ship needs crew as well as passengers! If you're interested in helping us in any way behind the scenes or with the technical equipment, please fill out our membership form or contact our membership secretary Anne Lowder on 0118 972 4464.
Gospel Choir Workshop
If you enjoy singing but don't want to get up on the stage, come and join us at another Gospel Choir Workshop on 1st September 2018! It is run by the incredibly talented Jo Sercombe and promises to be a lot of fun. You can sign up now at our Facebook event or read more here.
Autumn 2018 - Little Shop of Horrors
We are so excited to announce that the show after Anything Goes will be Little Shop of Horrors, performed at Leighton Park School from Wednesday 24th October to Saturday 27th October 2018. Featuring songs including "Suddenly Seymour" and "Somewhere That's Green", Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of a monstrous plant that takes over a shop in Skid Row and the love story that blooms in this strange situation.
If you'd like to join us for this show, on stage or behind the scenes, our first rehearsal will be held on Monday 28th May 2018, but you can always come down to the Grange Church on a Monday or Wednesday evening to talk to us about it.
New Beginnings Update
We were so proud that our Chairman Brian Bretney was able to present the New Beginnings charity with a cheque for £500 at our annual Christmas Carol concert. One of our members Claire volunteered at New Beginnings over the Christmas period. Read her blog about her time there and the amazing work the charity have been doing since opening the disused pub as a homeless drop in centre.
Multi-NODA Winning Society
In June 2017, the Sainsbury Singers were delighted to receive 6 District Awards and 4 Trophies from NODA! (National Operatic and Dramatic Association). You can read more about the awards and meet our winners in our special blog here.
Top Tips for Auditions
Even those who are incredibly comfortable performing on stage can find auditions really scary, and it's natural to get nervous before an audition. As the Sainsbury Singers have just had their auditions for Anything Goes, here are the members' Top Tips for getting through audition night.
